Archer MonksWhen one thinks of a monk, they usually think of someone challenging their opponents head on to hand to hand combat. But the monks of Wudikmen fight very differently. Dedicating themselves to the art of archery, they specialize in taking down enemies before they can even reach striking range. It is said that the most skilled practitioners can even direct the path of their arrows mid-flight through their chi.

Path of True AimThe Path of True Aim believes there is more to archery than just aiming for the target with your eye. The monks train to clear the mind of anything but their bow and their target, to focus in such a way that nothing can disturb their concentration. It is said that a master of True Aim can stand in the middle of an earthquake without ever losing their sight on their target.

The Hunter and the Luduan”There was once a skilled hunter who boasted that he could fell any being, be it human, beast or spirit, in a single shot. One day, while visiting a small hamlet, the villagers told him a terrifying tale; many children and cattle had been found horrifically gored, and many reported having seen a luduan in the area. Deciding that the luduan must be the one responsible for these deaths, the hunter vowed to track down and slay the creature. Once he had finally found the luduan, he fired an arrow straight at its heart. But when he went to inspect the fallen luduan, he found to his horror that his arrow had missed its target, which was still alive. The luduan told him that it had been searching for the real monster behind the attacks which it had now tracked down. The luduan led the hunter to the monster’s hiding place, and with the luduan’s guidance he fired an arrow straight into its heart, killing it in a single shot. The hunter had become the first human to be taught the Path of True Aim; not just to always hit what you’re aiming for, but to always aim at the correct target.”\n-One Thousand Virtuous Tales

Deadly Rain of LingtsuanThe most glorious moment in Wudikmen’s history was without a doubt when Jaher’s first invasion of Xianjie ended in the ambush at Lingtsuan. The monks of the Path of True Aim could fire their arrows around trees and branches, and through the thick brush and foliage of the ambush site every arrow they loosed flew straight for the hearts of the elves. The living God of the Bulwari and his ageless legions from beyond the western sea had bested both the Sorcerer-King of Castanor and the demon-anointed Xhazobain, but in the forests of Lingtsuan, under the rain of Wudikmen arrows, for the first time they broke and turned back.

Clear Minds of WudikmenTo the Path of True Aim, keeping a clear and focused mind and always understanding your true aim are guidelines not just when it comes to combat. They are just as important in the realms of religious meditation, philosophical discussion, interpersonal arguments and personal struggle. Acolytes are instructed and trained to keep calm no matter what happens to them, and the true masters of the school are renowned for always keeping their composure no matter the crisis. Thanks to this stellar reputation, other temples will often invite the masters of True Aim to serve as organizers or philosophers.

Prepare for BattleSince the fall of the Phoenix Empire, there had been no great power northeast of the Xianjie to threaten the Xiaken. It was thus that the monks of Wudikmen were caught off guard by the rise of Bianfang and the advances made in Xianjie by the dragon kingdom. Yet even as the monks fought off the invaders, news arose of an even greater threat to the northwest. The hobgoblin armies of Moguwon Wolfborn annihilated the Ruin Kingdoms with a force unlike anything seen since the time of Jaher. Swallowing their pride, the masters of the True Aim accepted an unfavorable peace deal with Bianfang, so that they could turn their full attention to the true threat. This time, they would not be caught off guard.

Keeping the Old Ways AliveAfter the hobgoblins conquered the Xianjie, the monks who wanted to practice their arts free of the Command’s rules had a choice: to flee abroad as refugees or retreat deeper and deeper into the hills and forests. In the centuries that followed the fall of the Wulin, the world would slowly but mercilessly progress into a new future. As warfare evolved, many monks would abandon traditional ways in favor of new combinations of chi and firearms. But the monks of the True Aim stubbornly refused to abandon their signature weapons, and insisted on training and fighting with the bow long after it had become seen as outdated by the rest of Haless.
