Reborn from the AshesCharach, previously a sizeable tribe that held a strong lakeside position, were renowned for their fishing prowess and the herding of hippos. However, envy stirred within the hearts of the Kakhazajar, who coveted the land in order to encircle the lake entirely. In pursuit of their ambition, they brokered an agreement with Zatal to annex Charach and partition the territories, dispatching their warriors to besiege Charach from two directions. The conflict was swift, and amidst the occupation, a contingent of Kakhazajar soldiers ignited a fire that consumed the majority of Charach's primary village. Incensed by this, Kakhazajar imposed the arduous task of reconstructing the settlement upon the erring soldiers, with the added directive to expand it, capitalizing on its strategic location.

The PoisonedThe lizardfolk of Charach have developed an unfortunate mutation which truly lives up to the name of their people, Ashhama - “the poisoned”. Their saliva is toxic to people outside the village, which has hampered the growth of the village but is an asset when used for combat. The blades of axes and speartips are coated in the toxin and it has proved very effective in battle, paralyzing then killing those that come into contact with it.

Agricultural ConcertDiverging from its roots as a fishing village, Charach grew to host large fields of grain. It was discovered that bards and their musical magics increased crop production rapidly by improving both workers and the plants themselves in concert. The bardic magic had an effect on the plants, not only making them grow larger and faster, but also changing them. The shells of gourds became durable like metal, some crops would emit a bioluminescent glow, while others would produce vapors that put nearby creatures to sleep, protecting themselves against predators.

KhogakitsaThe grains produced in Charach were of a high quality, and made for delicious food. A different use, however, was what made Charach much more well-known. Fermenting the grains and adding some locally grown herbs created an alcoholic drink renowned not just for its taste but its effect on the curse. Known as Khogakitsa, the process of brewing and refining this drink is viewed as an art form. The amount of effort put into brewing the drink is felt by those who drink it, causing the effects of the Ashhama curse to lessen.

Hippo WrestlingHippos are a common sight around Charach. Used for work by common folk and as mounts by the military, they are an essential part of Charach’s daily life. Another, more exciting place to see them is as part of a popular pastime in Charach: a hippo wrestling event. These events are held in stadiums across Charach. Hippo wrestling is performed by two well-trained hippos, each with the goal of pushing the opposing hippo out from the center of the stadium. This is based on the natural rivalry fights of wild hippos while maintaining a level of safety for the hippos. Such events are often accompanied by food and drink, making the evenings of Charach joyous to all.

Diplomatic ToastsIn a bid to enhance their standing among neighboring settlements and beyond, Charach initiated a tradition of sharing a drink of Khogakitsa when finalizing trade agreements, thereby cultivating a reputation for friendliness and amicability. Bolstered by this improved image, Charach's leadership embarked on an ambitious mission to expand their diplomatic reach. They dispatched delegations to various villages, towns, and even cities, with the aim of presenting Charach as a well-established trading hub primed for diplomatic interactions.

Numbing BrewThe Moonwarden Research Institute of Charach was established in the 1700s with an initial focus on studying the poison produced by the town's residents. Eventually, their research uncovered that this poison, when used carefully, could actually provide temporary relief by numbing nerves. But the real breakthrough came courtesy of Kazrek Hissfoam, an individual sponsored by a local restaurant owner to experiment with new brewing methods. Kazrek's efforts refined the poison by brewing it, making its effects more consistent and dependable.
