He knew he could cook a meal better than anything the chef could dream of. When Katzal cooked his fish and tasted it, it was just as he liked it, but the judges agreed that the chef’s meal was better! He was then challenged by the oldest naga of his people to a debate. Knowing his mind was sharpest of all, Katzal thought he would quickly win. However, regardless of  which topic he picked, what wordplay he conjured up, or the evidence he had, it all fell apart in front of the elder. “You have all these talented people near yet you only want copies of yourself. |idea6desc=“Alashkatsa territory is regularly invaded by giant fire ant colonies. These ants are generally the size of a very small dog, while their queen can grow to a little more than double that size. A single lizardfolk tribesman may be able to take on one or two of these ants, but such a favorable encounter is rare indeed. Most colonies number in the hundreds and there are occasional accounts of colonies  in the thousands. These colonies have to be exterminated quickly, or else they can overrun nearby villages. Left unchecked, these colonies can grow to such a size that one needs  an army to face them. The name of these ants is fitting indeed, for they can and will breathe fire at will, which has led to them accidentally creating forest fires. Their stinger can easily penetrate lizardfolk scales to inject their excruciatingly painful venom. However, locals have found a way to semi domesticate the ants through food and companionship. They  were rarely kept as pets and as tools, but later were used to extract the chemicals they use for fire breathing. The chemicals they produce to breathe fire are used as accelerants, explosives and proto-flamethrowers.Excerpt of The Hierarchical Herald,  Gnomish explorer Philiheed Whimsil, 1785

Its grayish bark has patches of rust coloring closely matching its orange interior. If cut, the tree oozes milky latex which is used as a glue and insulator. Building a FoundationThe backbone of Alashkatsa was measured, sawn, and assembled by its carpenters. Their plentiful abundance and easy to use Sarhaly teak has kickstarted many villages. The wood's sturdiness has weathered many storms. Carpentry and carpented goods have become the main export and the most prestigious profession of the Alashkatsa people; after generations of learning how to manipulate wood they have found unique ways of joining wood without the need of nails or screws, through intricate woodworking joints. Wagons to pull goods, siege weapons for war, or a house to house a family, the carpenters can do it all.

We Are Not AloneThe storm is as violent as it is unpredictable and will destroy those who are not prepared or not strong enough. The Alashkatsan people see this as a challenge they must not only endure themselves but with which they must also help as many others as they can. This desire coalesced in 1541 when they came together to help the people along the Adzalas river following a massive flood which devastated Rayaz. Alashkatsa sent a massive delegation of their most prestigious master carpenters and supplies to help with reconstruction of the city as a symbol of friendship. Alashkatsa’s successful campaign wasn't the only one to offer aid for the devastation; however, it was the only one to follow through with the promise. The extent of the aid was also so intense that it could be said that the city was fully rebuilt by the carpenters.

A Fool’s Pride"Katzal the Fool was so arrogant that he proclaimed that everyone would live better lives if they were just like him. To prove his point he sent out a challenge to anyone who thought they could beat him at anything. A warrior first challenged Katzal to a fight where Katzal was swiftly knocked off his feet, and was forced to surrender. After recovering, and grumbling, Katzal was then challenged by a chef. "You have all these talented people near yet you only want copies of yourself. You would be nothing without them."

Ats DakhetaraOn the winter solstice, the Alashkatsa people gather on a day of exaggerated expression, Ats Dakhetara. They sing songs about their troubles as loud as possible, then listen to the impossible stories the elders claim to have lived through. Most try to create in hopes of the process giving catharsis. Others pray to the nagas for salvation. Some reenact displays of heroism their ancestors performed. There are many who have duels to settle arguments. Occasionally some simply reminisce of the time they have spent with each other. On this day they force out all the emotion they can, for they may not feel these feelings again. They have weathered this storm and hope to weather it again. Sadly the storm is unrelenting.

Fiery Pests"Alashkatsa territory is regularly invaded by giant fire ant colonies.
